Rinehart Peshell

Rinehart L. Peshell, Partner

Rinehart L. Peshell has 20 years of experience practicing law in Salt Lake City, Utah, and served as General Counsel for Wasatch Crest Insurance Companies in Salt Lake City for seven years.  His areas of practice focus include: corporate transactions and civil litigation; business law, including fiscal planning, sale and transfer of businesses, and advice and counsel; real estate law; bankruptcy law; insurance law; personal injury law; family law; estate planning; and workers' compensation.

Mr. Peshell received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Utah, Salt Lake City, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Political Science, graduating magna cum laude as a member of the Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi honorary societies.  He also received an Associate of Science Degree from Dixie Junior College in Saint George, Utah. 

Mr. Peshell is member of the State Bar of Utah, and is admitted to practice in the Federal Courts as well as before various federal agencies, including the Internal Revenue Service.  Mr. Peshell has been a member of the Defense Bar, Utah State Workers' Compensation and the Insurance Fraud Advisory Board and was also formerly a member of: the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce; the Advisory Committee for the Utah Labor Commission, recommending Workers' Compensation laws; the Health Insurance Advisory Committee, the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce, and the American Trial Lawyers.  Mr. Peshell is also involved with the Boy Scouts of America, served in the U.S. Army Military Intelligence program, and is an active member of his religious and local communities.

Richard Matheson

Richard M. Matheson, Partner

Richard M. Matheson has been practicing law in Salt Lake City, Utah for over 20 years.  He has prior work experience in the residential and commercial construction industry.  His areas of practice focus include: real property law, construction law, lien foreclosure law, commercial and residential property management; HOA Management, real property and business buy/sell transactions, condemnation law; landlord/tenant law; business organization and counseling; and litigation.

Mr. Matheson's extensive litigation experience includes successfully handling a wide range of business and commercial litigation matters in both state and federal court, overseeing every aspect of the process, from effective use of discovery devices through to trial. 

Mr. Matheson was admitted to the State Bar of Utah and received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Utah, Salt Lake City in 1989.  He received a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Utah in 1985.  Mr. Matheson also served as a Judicial Intern to Judge Regnal W. Graff on the Utah Court of Appeals in 1989.  Mr. Matheson is an active member of his church and local communities.  Currently, he is a member of the Architectural Review Board for Dorchester Point Homeowners Association and a member of the Board of Directors of Snake Creek Mutual Water Company. 

Jonathon Parry

Jonathon D. Parry, Of Counsel

Jon Parry, who is Of Counsel to the firm, has practiced law since 1996, including in Fort Collins, Colorado, and Seattle, Washington, before beginning work with Matheson & Peshell in 2005.  Mr. Parry focuses on representing business and entrepreneurs in identifying and protecting their intellectual property, including copyrights, trademarks, and trade secrets.  He is skilled in handling a wide range of intellectual property issues, including drafting non-disclosure agreements and employment agreements and prosecuting trademark registrations before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.  He also advises clients regarding deriving extra value from their intellectual property through licensing agreements and other avenues.

Mr. Parry represents clients in litigation matters as well, including motions for temporary restraining orders and preliminary injunctions that are sometimes crucial for protection of intellectual property.  He represents clients in commercial and real estate disputes and appears in trials, hearings, and depositions.  He retains and oversees the work of experts supporting litigation matters, such as computer forensics and business valuation experts.

Mr. Parry received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Nebraska College of Law, Lincoln, Nebraska, in 1996.  He earlier earned a Bachelor of Science degree in political science and history from the University of South Dakota, Vermillion, South Dakota, where he graduated cum laude, and was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society.  Mr. Parry is a member of the State Bars of Utah (active), Washington (active), Nebraska (inactive, in good standing), and Colorado (inactive, in good standing).  He is admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Central District of Utah and the Eastern and Western Districts of Washington.  He is a member of: the American Bar Association and its Sections on Intellectual Property and Business Law; the Utah Bar Association and its Sections on Intellectual Property, Business Law, and Litigation, and is a Utah Bar Examiner (ethics).  Mr. Parry is also a member of the Federal Bar Association, District of Utah Chapter; the Washington Bar Association and its Section on Intellectual Property Law; and the Nebraska Bar Association.  He has completed advanced litigation training from the National Institute of Trial Advocacy, having earned a Diploma in Trial Advocacy Skills.
